Sell digital products on Telegram: bot flow to checkout

By Mario Antonini·

To sell digital products on Telegram with a bot, you need a conversation that delivers value, makes the offer at the right moment and takes the person to checkout with a button. No coding. This guide gives you a ready-made flow, the text of each message and a way to mark who bought.

A note: this is the Flow4You blog, and the examples use our editor. The logic works on any tool. Flow4You’s app and pricing are in Portuguese and Brazilian reais, so block names below appear in English with the Portuguese label alongside.

What the bot does in this sale, and what it doesn’t

The bot handles the conversation. The purchase happens on your platform.

The bot’s job:

  • Deliver the promised lead magnet: a lesson, a resource or a diagnostic.
  • Separate beginners from people who already run something.
  • Present the offer and send the checkout link as a button.
  • Come back to people who didn’t buy.
  • Hand the conversation to an operator when a question needs a person.

Outside the bot:

  • The payment. In Flow4You, it doesn’t go through the flow. The button opens your checkout.
  • Measuring sales by ad. The flow handles the conversation. To learn which ad brought each sale, see how to track your Telegram community’s sales, which is the job of Track4you, our sister tool. It is separate from Flow4You and measures a different part of the path.
  • Messaging people who never spoke to the bot. Telegram doesn’t let bots start conversations. The person has to click the link and press Start.

How to sell digital products on Telegram: 5 conversation steps

The structure is simple and fits most cases:

  1. A promise outside the bot. In the ad, bio or channel, you promise something concrete: “A 20-minute lesson on X”. The link goes to the bot.
  2. Immediate delivery. The first message delivers what you promised. No signup, no stalling.
  3. One question. Two buttons split your audience. Each answer can become a tag.
  4. The offer. After a while, the person gets the offer with two buttons: one opens checkout, the other opens a question.
  5. Follow-up. People who didn’t buy get a new message, from a different angle.

How long to wait and how many messages to send is covered in the Telegram sales funnel guide. Here the focus is digital products.

Example flow: free lesson to checkout

The most common question is about time: lessons run up to 15 minutes. If it makes sense, you can enroll here.Go to checkoutTalk to someone
The flow as it looks in the Flow4You editor.

What to notice:

  • “See the offer” and “Go to checkout” are link buttons. A button can either continue to the next block or open a link. These open your platform’s page.
  • “I have a question” continues to the next block. From there, you can add the AI Agent or call an operator.
  • The Condition depends on the “bought” tag. Where it comes from is right below.
  • The texts are examples. Replace them with your own, and don’t promise results you can’t prove.

How to mark who bought

This decides whether your follow-up works. Payment notices don’t reach Flow4You on their own, so the “bought” tag has to arrive by one of these routes:

  • The operator applies it in chat. They confirm the purchase and apply the tag in the conversation. It works well at low volume or for pricier products, where the sale already involves a person.
  • A link on the thank-you page. Your platform sends the buyer to the link of a post-purchase flow (t.me/yourbot?start=ref_…), and that flow opens with an Action block that adds the tag. It handles more volume. A buyer who doesn’t tap the link stays untagged.

Two features look like they solve this and don’t. CSV import only creates new leads, so anyone already in the lead list (“Base de leads”) counts as “already existed” and doesn’t get the tag. And the external request block (“Consulta Externa”) makes an HTTP request to another system and stores the response in a variable, but the Condition block doesn’t read that variable.

In practice, start with the simplest route and move up only when it hurts. A gap between purchase and tag means a buyer may get one extra reminder. So write the reminder in a way that doesn’t sound odd to someone who already bought: “If you’ve already enrolled, ignore this message”.

If your product depends on granting access automatically, solve that on your checkout platform. The bot can talk about access, but it doesn’t receive the confirmation on its own.

After the purchase

With the tag applied, the bot stays useful:

  • Buyer welcome. A separate flow explains where to access the product and how to get help.
  • Support. Questions from buyers go to live chat. The Telegram bot live chat guide shows how an operator takes over the conversation.
  • Next offer. A broadcast message can go only to people with the right tag. Remember that the audience is defined by tag and bot: if a purchase didn’t become a tag, the broadcast can’t see it.

People who didn’t buy

Most people who come in don’t buy the first time, and a follow-up sequence exists for that. Some practical rules for digital products:

  • Change the angle in each message. One about proof, another about an objection, another about a real deadline.
  • Don’t invent scarcity. A fake deadline burns your list for the next launch.
  • Know when to stop. After a few tries, stop sending that person the offer. Someone who blocks the bot gets nothing more.
  • Test one thing at a time. The Randomizer block splits traffic between two versions of a message.

What breaks in practice

  • Selling in the first message. The person came for the lesson. Deliver before you ask.
  • A lead magnet unrelated to the product. The lesson should attract people who want your course topic, not just the curious.
  • Dropping the checkout link in running text. A button is clearer and is the obvious next step.
  • Follow-up without a Condition. Chasing people who already paid leads to complaints and refunds.
  • No way to reach a human. Someone asking about guarantees and installments is close to deciding.
  • An unpublished flow. Only published flows open. Test the link in your own Telegram before sending traffic.

Where to start

If you don’t have a bot yet, start by creating one in @BotFather. Then build just four blocks: entry, delivery, offer and one follow-up. The complete structure, with every piece, is in the Telegram bot builder guide.

To build this flow in Flow4You, subscriptions start at R$ 99 per month, based on active contacts, with the AI Agent billed separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for any kind of digital product?

The logic works for courses, mentoring, communities and ebooks: the conversation leads to your platform's link. What changes is the lead magnet and the length of the conversation. A pricier product usually needs more proof and more room for a human.

Can I keep the checkout platform I already use?

Yes. The message button opens whatever link you set. Flow4You has no ready-made integration with payment platforms, so the purchase stays on the checkout you already use.

What should I do about refund requests?

Treat it as a tag. Someone who asked for a refund can lose the buyer tag and get a different one, so they don't receive upgrade offers or fall back into the sales follow-up. An operator swaps it in the chat, or you do in the lead list.

Do I need a channel as well as the bot?

It isn't required. A channel talks to everyone, and a bot talks to each person. Many sellers use both: the channel attracts, and the bot link opens the sales conversation.
